United States Grand Prix in Austin, Carlos Sainz is confident in the potential of the Ferrari SF-24. The Circus will return to the track at the Circuit of The Americas in just over a week, marking the start of the final part of this unusual season. While Red Bull seemed poised to win yet another title without much difficulty after dominating 2023, today Ferrari and (especially) McLaren could spoil their party.
Only six races remain in the season, starting with the United States Grand Prix which takes place at the 5.513-kilometre Circuit of The Americas in Austin on Sunday, October 20. In Texas, the last useful updates will debut for several teams, including Scuderia Ferrari. The Italian side’s team principal, Frédéric Vasseur, had already hinted at this, noting that the strategy would be shared across the grid. This will be the final test for the SF-24 to assess the chances for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
The goal is to beat Red Bull, assuming McLaren remains out of reach after their performance in Singapore. Second place in the Constructors’ Championship would be a small victory for Ferrari, which still hasn't given up on dreaming. However, realism is necessary, and Carlos Sainz offers a realistic outlook for the final part of the 2024 Formula 1 championship:
“I think McLaren definitely has an advantage and is the favorite to win the title,” the Spaniard explains. “We still have Red Bull in our sights. But we must stay in the game in case McLaren has any problems. [Second place] would still demonstrate a good recovery capability from the team.” – the future Williams driver pointed out.
“I believe Red Bull will come back very strong with updates at the end of the season, once they figure out what was wrong with their car,” the Ferrari driver continues. “It won’t be easy to beat them.” – Carlos Sainz concluded.
