Former Ferrari engineer Luigi Mazzola, who has won 14 Formula 1 world titles with the Italian side during his motorsport career, commented on the Maranello team’s strategy in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on the Sky Race Anatomy show.

Luigi Mazzola’s comments
Here are some of the most important statements from the former Ferrari engineer: “How did Charles Leclerc lose the advantage during the pit stop? Good question. I was very surprised, and I think Leclerc was even more surprised by that than by the overtake.” – the Italian pointed out.

“He was expecting anything, he did a very slow in-lap and out-lap to preserve the tires, but he didn’t realize that those 5 seconds were gone. At that point, he found himself in the position he was in. The real fault [of Ferrari, editor's note] is having lost those 5 seconds, and after that, the overtake [by Piastri, editor's note] was something he couldn’t believe.” – the current emotional speaker, executive coach and corporate trainer explained.

“Strategy error? I think so. That gap is something you need to maintain. He [Piastri, editor's note] was trying to undercut, but you were several seconds ahead, so you needed to keep that lead,” concluded Luigi Mazzola.

And what do you think? Do you agree with the Italian engineer’s view? Let us know with a comment.
