Fred Vasseur in His Third Year at Ferrari
Frederic Vasseur is increasingly in control of Ferrari, and it is fair to say that 2025 will be the first year of “his” Scuderia. Now in his third season at Maranello, the Frenchman is surrounded by figures he strongly wanted while also having “cleared out” any remnants of the previous Mattia Binotto-led management. For this reason, and especially with a promising 2024, expectations for the 2025 Formula 1 championship are very high.
The team principal was given time to work and build his version of Ferrari, particularly since he arrived to find a team disunited and exhausted from a 2022 season that started brilliantly but ended in controversy—not only due to results but also because of Mattia Binotto’s overall management, which led to his dismissal by President John Elkann shortly after.
Fred Vasseur’s comments
“Ferrari started the 2022 project six months ahead of everyone else and saw finishing second as a failure,” he told AutoHebdo – “2022 was a great season in terms of results, but it was perceived as a missed opportunity. The team had an advantage that it was unable to capitalize on, which created a lot of frustration within the team. That season was a real trauma—we had to restore calm and serenity. I didn't want a team driven by fear; rebuilding confidence was the absolute priority.” – the Ferrari team boss continued.
Regarding the upcoming season, Fred Vasseur remains cautious: “Over the past six months, we have worked very hard on the SF-25 and made good improvements. But we will have to wait until we are on track in Melbourne to understand where we stand. We want to fight for both championships because we know we have two drivers capable of doing it, and the atmosphere within the team is very positive.” – the French manager concluded.
