Fred Vasseur reveals "perfect combination" that will make Ferrari great

Fred Vasseur, Team Principal of Ferrari, spoke about the new driver pairing of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. In an interview given after the presentation of the SF-25, the Frenchman shared his perspective on the collaboration between the two drivers, highlighting their harmony and the importance of internal competition to bring the team to success.
Hamilton's arrival at Ferrari has generated many expectations, especially regarding the dynamic with his new teammate. On this matter, Fred Vasseur stated: "I know both Charles and Lewis well. I must say that it didn't feel strange to me seeing them work together. At this stage of the season, all teams are world champions, and all teammates are like they're on a honeymoon. That's just how Formula 1 works. But the first weeks of collaboration between the two have gone really well, and I'm not surprised by that."
Fred Vasseur: “Leclerc and Hamilton are working well together”
The Team Principal then added that the relationship between the two was already solid before they started working together at Ferrari: "Even last year, they got along well and were able to build a good friendship, so they're starting in great shape. The important thing is to continue like this and work as a team."
Fred Vasseur has already had the opportunity to work with Hamilton in the past and has no concerns about his age or competitiveness: "I worked with Hamilton many years ago. I'm not at all worried about his age, and he proved it in Abu Dhabi last year when he climbed from the back of the grid to fourth place, even overtaking George Russell on the final lap. He has the pace, and I've never had any doubts."
However, the Team Principal acknowledges that the seven-time world champion has changed significantly compared to the early days of his career. "He's not the same kid I knew back then. Twenty years have passed, and everyone changes and improves. He's definitely much more mature now, with a lot more experience behind him. That's exactly what I was looking for—for myself, for Charles, and for Ferrari. I think it's the perfect combination."
Charles Leclerc must make the most of Lewis Hamilton's presence
Fred Vasseur sees Lewis Hamilton's presence as a great opportunity for Charles Leclerc's growth. The goal is undoubtedly to leverage the Briton's experience to further improve: "This is what Charles must do—base himself on the experience and performance of his teammate. He is the driver closest to you, and because of this, you have access to all his data, work on it, and if you're smart, take an extra step ahead of him."
The harmony between the two drivers already seems well established, as Fred Vasseur explained: "I'm not worried about any disputes between them. I only see positive emulation." Finally, he reiterated how teamwork is essential to aim for titles: "I already talked about this last year with Charles and Carlos. We had already reached that point, but if we want to perform, we must do it with both drivers. To compete for titles, healthy competition is needed."
