Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton between trust and an expiration date: Gunther Steiner grants six months to shine in F1. After this period, criticism will rain down on the Prancing Horse and the seven-time world champion. The Briton will have to adapt quickly to the new car, and the SF-25 will need to meet the (very high) expectations of the fans.
A surreal atmosphere can almost be felt at Ferrari. The Prancing Horse has always been “obliged to win,” so to speak. For historical reasons, prestige, and attachment to its country: in Maranello, work is carried out every day with the certainty that failure—in the most absolute sense of the term—is not an option. Because enthusiasm all too quickly gives way to resignation.
A resignation that Ferrari fans have been experiencing for far too long. But 2025 is different; resignation is almost no longer felt. Enthusiasm has returned, hype is back, and there is once again great anticipation to see the new car finally on track. The Hamilton effect, some might say. But everything has an expiration date, and time moves fast.
Steiner: "Hamilton wants things to go right at Ferrari"
It is Gunther Steiner who sets a timer on that deadline. The former Haas team principal, interviewed by GPBlog.com, is clear: "You should never think that something won't work. If it doesn't, you deal with the problem when you get there; if you start with the idea that it might not work, you shouldn't even begin." – he pointed out.
"I say this because Lewis is well aware that he will do everything to make things work. He must not waste time thinking it might not work, because that takes energy. He has thought long and hard about this decision and has said this is what he wants to do, and now he must go all the way. It could be the opportunity to bring Ferrari back to being world champion." – the former Haas boss added.
"He will have a certain period [during which] no one will attack him. It won't be two years, but six months. Then the pressure and criticism will begin. Everything he does will be questioned and criticized. But there is a time frame in which he can make things work, and he just has to focus on that to succeed."
