In 2023, the F1 Academy made its debut under Susie Wolff's leadership, introducing a fresh vision to diversify the motorsport landscape. In just two years, the program has achieved significant milestones, helping two female champions progress to competitions like FRECA and GB3, while also increasing female participation in racing.
Susie Wolff highlighted in an interview with *Goodwood* that female participation has risen to 25%. This figure is not just a statistic but represents a cultural shift in motorsport. "When we talk to people in the karting world, they're calling this phenomenon the F1 Academy effect," Susie Wolff stated.
Do Women Now Have a New Opportunity to Race in F1 Thanks to the F1 Academy?
The visibility of young women in racing suits and pit lanes is breaking gender stereotypes, fostering a more inclusive environment for the next generation of drivers. The F1 Academy goes beyond providing a platform for women; it actively scouts female talent in karting centers worldwide, offering sponsorships and connections with high-profile partners.
Wolff also shared some key details. "With the massive exposure we've achieved in our first year, and with nearly all Formula 1 broadcasters on board, we are truly changing the perception of our sport," she explained.
Furthermore, drivers like Abbi Pulling and Doriane Pin have secured spots in development programs with Alpine and Mercedes, respectively. Susie Wolff emphasized the importance of a long-term approach, stating, "The success of the F1 Academy isn't solely measured by getting a woman into Formula 1 but by discovering exceptional talent and providing them with the right pathway."
With these remarks, Susie Wolff announced that the all-female series will kick off its third season on March 21 at the Shanghai International Circuit.
