Which team invests the most in the still “human” side of the paddock? An easy answer. With the new Lewis Hamilton – Charles Leclerc pairing, it can only be Ferrari. According to figures gathered by Sport&Finanza, the Maranello team could spend up to 116 million dollars on its drivers, clearly leading a ranking where it would be the only team in triple digits for salaries.
Lewis Hamilton – Charles Leclerc: a 116-million-dollar duo
The largest share will go to Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion, who joined Ferrari with the dream of surpassing Michael Schumacher in total titles, has signed a three-year contract worth 50 million dollars per season, with an additional 20 million possible in bonuses depending on race results.
Charles Leclerc, on the other hand, extended his contract with the Scuderia at the beginning of 2024 until 2028, securing an annual salary of 34 million dollars plus 12 million in bonuses. Adding up the maximum amounts each driver can earn (70 million for British driver, 46 million for the Monegasque), the total reaches the previously mentioned 116 million. Sponsorships to support this massive financial outlay are certainly not lacking: according to Sport&Finanza, Ferrari is expected to bring in between 350 and 400 million dollars in 2025 from partner companies.
The others? Red Bull and McLaren on the podium, Mercedes in fourth place
Lewis Hamilton – Charles Leclerc will thus be the highest-paid driver duo in the paddock and the one receiving the most attention. Behind the Maranello team is Red Bull, which, while showering Max Verstappen with gold (60 million dollars plus 15 million in bonuses), can tighten the purse strings by paying only 5 million to the young bet Liam Lawson (a figure that could double with bonuses during the season).
The third step of the podium goes to McLaren, which invests just under 60 million dollars (57) in its driver pairing. Lando Norris earns 20 million (plus 15 in bonuses), while Oscar Piastri receives 5 million (plus 17 in bonuses). Mercedes, meanwhile, drops from the podium, having significantly reduced its payroll with Hamilton’s departure. The Silver Arrows will spend around 28 million between George Russell (15+8 in bonuses) and Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who will make his debut with a 2-million-dollar salary, potentially increasing to 5 million with bonuses.
