The qualifying session for the 2024 Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix saw Carlos Sainz achieve his first pole of the season, the sixth of his career. His Maranello teammate Charles Leclerc, on the other hand, will start from fourth place at the 4.304-kilometre Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.

The Mexican Grand Prix start will be crucial if the Spaniard wants to take home another victory after his win in Australia earlier this year.

Driver #55 hinted at this last week in Austin, expressing his desire to win one last time to leave Ferrari on a high note.

"Given the good car and how well I've been driving lately, there's obviously optimism for these last five races," Carlos Sainz explained when asked how he felt about potentially winning the Constructors’ Championship.

The gap between Red Bull and the Scuderia is only 8 points. Moreover, Max Verstappen will not have the support of his teammate Sergio Pérez, who is starting from the back of the grid in his home race. At the same time, the Spaniard admitted to feeling a sense of bitterness because he believes Ferrari could really compete for the championship next year. "And I won't be here."

"I've been a big part of this team for the last four years, helping it fight for the championship next season. The fact that I'm driving really well, that I'm in the fastest car, and that I'll be leaving in five races… It leaves me with a feeling that's really… I don't know how to put it, but it's not a nice feeling," – the Spanish driver continued.

With his head held high, Carlos Sainz concluded by stating that he is still hungry for victories and wants to stand on the podium, making the most of the time he has left at Scuderia Ferrari: "I want to enjoy it. Then I'll think about next year."
