Since the announcement of Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari as Charles Leclerc's new teammate, many—including Jean Todt—have shared their views on the matter. The Frenchman knows the world of the Prancing Horse like the back of his hand, having been part of it for almost fifteen years.
Amid successes and failures, Jean Todt's stint at Ferrari coincided with the team's last glorious triumphs. Triumphs that remain etched in the memories of those fans who hope to finally end the win drought with Lewis Hamilton's arrival in Maranello.
Top-level lineup, although…
It was precisely the new Ferrari lineup, composed of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, that was one of the topics discussed by Jean Todt in a lengthy interview with the Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica. “What is Ferrari missing to win? Little, very little. Even in the past, they came very close,” declared the former CEO of the Red, speaking about his ex-team's winless period.
The Frenchman then shifted his attention to the latest developments at Ferrari. “Even the lineup with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz was a good pairing; they certainly didn’t lose because of the drivers,” Todt added. “Obviously, even with Hamilton the lineup remains top-level. Will it be better than the previous one? I have no idea; we'll have to see the level of the car.” – he pointed out.
Speaking of what could be Charles Leclerc's season, given the overwhelming presence of a seven-time world champion, he concluded: “I don't think it will be affected by Lewis Hamilton. For Charles, it could be an opportunity to be even more motivated, much like what happened with George Russell at Mercedes.”
