While Ferrari prepares to challenge McLaren for the Constructors’ title in the final act of an unforgettable season, the team has already ensured a historic weekend in Abu Dhabi.
Scuderia Ferrari has officially confirmed what many anticipated: on Friday, Carlos Sainz’s car will be driven by Academy driver Arthur Leclerc. The Monegasque will take to the track alongside his brother Charles, who will remain behind the wheel of his SF-24 #16.
First-ever brother teammates
This pairing will mark the first time in F1 history that brothers participate in an official session as teammates. It’s a special moment for both and a preview for Arthur, who will become Ferrari’s official reserve driver alongside Antonio Giovinazzi starting in 2025.
The last F1 weekend featuring two brothers on track together was the 2006 Brazilian Grand Prix, with Michael and Ralf Schumacher racing for Ferrari and Toyota, respectively. Michael finished fourth in his final race with Ferrari, while Ralf retired in ninth due to suspension issues.
Ferrari Bids Farewell to Sainz Ahead of 2025 Hamilton Era
Ferrari is set to part ways with Carlos Sainz this weekend, as the Spaniard transitions to Williams for Tuesday's post-season test. Over his four-season tenure with the Scuderia, Carlos Sainz, who joined in 2021 to replace four-time champion Sebastian Vettel, secured four victories and six pole positions.
Looking ahead to 2025, Ferrari will welcome seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. The 39-year-old Briton, eager for a fresh start after a challenging final season with Mercedes despite two race wins, will finally fulfill his long-anticipated move to Maranello.
For now, Ferrari's immediate focus remains on the 2024 season finale in Abu Dhabi, where the team has a chance to clinch its first Constructors’ Championship since 2008. Trailing McLaren by 21 points, the Scuderia faces an uphill battle to overturn the deficit, but victory would mark a historic achievement reminiscent of the Kimi Raikkonen – Felipe Massa era.
