Lewis Hamilton is confident, and Ferrari fans can only smile. During the event in Milan celebrating Maranello's partnership with Unicredit, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion already showed he is ready to hit the track in Melbourne.
"We are the strongest pairing Formula 1 has ever seen." These were Hamilton's words, referring to his teammate Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque and the Brit drove together for the first time through the streets of Milan, to the delight of the cheering fans. The two were warmly welcomed by the thousands of supporters gathered in Milan.
Are Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton the strongest F1 duo?
Charles Leclerc drove the SF90, the Ferrari with which he won his first F1 race at Spa and then his first Monza victory in 2019. Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, chose the SF21, the car from the 2021 season, driven by Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in one of Ferrari's most challenging championships.
The Milan event was a true crowd spectacle. The two drivers put on a show, performing classic donuts. Excitement in Italy is running high: fans are eager for a drivers’ title that has been missing since 2007. Even Fred Vasseur appeared ready for what is shaping up to be one of the most fiercely contested championships ever.
Both drivers worked on the simulator until the last moment, providing engineers with data to fine-tune the car ahead of the Australian Grand Prix at the 5.278-kilometre Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne. The SF-25's first competitive laps during the race weekend will provide definitive answers on the car's true performance and the effectiveness of the new front suspension design.
