A new race engineer at Ferrari for Lewis Hamilton, the Englishman is confident that he will know immediately if the relationship will work. With his departure from Mercedes, the seven-time World Champion will lose Peter “Bono” Bonnington, who has been promoted to Head of Race Engineering in Brackley. In Maranello, Lewis Hamilton will likely meet Riccardo Adami, who was previously Sebastian Vettel’s engineer.

Changing jobs is never easy. If you also change countries, colleagues, and habits, things can easily get complicated. Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes after twelve years. Seasons of success, dominance, but also recent pain and difficulties. He will not find, in his new adventure, the person who always accompanied him in Brackley: dear Bono will stay with the Silver Arrows.

“I knew it would be a difficult scenario [to bring him with me], but he has to think about his family, and I want the best for him,” commented the Stevenage champion. Peter Bonnington will become Head of Race Engineering, a role already held by Giampiero Lambiase at Red Bull, and will take care of a new driver starting in 2025, who will be Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

As for Lewis Hamilton, he might be met at Ferrari by Riccardo Adami, who was previously Sebastian Vettel’s engineer and is now in Carlos Sainz’s garage: “The race engineer must be someone you get along with – explains the Englishman – It must be someone with whom it's easy to build a relationship and whom you trust. I'll know right away if things will work or not.”

The contract that binds #44 to Brackley prevents him from having contact with Ferrari until the end of the season. This situation complicates his approach to the Prancing Horse and, at least for now, prevents him from developing a relationship with Riccardo Adami: “There will be a lot of work to do at the beginning of next year.”
