Lewis Hamilton has never hidden his desire to see the sport return to the African continent before his retirement, and it appears that his wish is being taken seriously. Both Rwanda and South Africa have put forward bids to bring the F1 circus back to Africa, adding to the growing momentum for such an event.

Since Stefano Domenicali took the reins of Formula 1, the sport has seen an increasing number of countries vying to join the calendar in the coming seasons. This push is largely driven by the immense rise in popularity that Formula 1 has experienced in recent years, which has led to record-breaking attendance at race weekends.

As a result, there is a growing possibility that in the near future, certain Grand Prix events may rotate in order to allow more nations to benefit from the prestige and economic advantages that hosting a race brings.

The future Ferrari driver has no doubt in his mind that Formula 1 will return to Africa before he steps away from the sport. "I hope Domenicali doesn't leave his position because he has been crucial in recent years," said Lewis Hamilton, reflecting on the potential departure of the former Ferrari Team Principal from the sport. "I've talked with him many times about the possibility of returning to Africa. He promised me it will happen before I retire."

"That’s why I hope he stays in Formula 1. He knows this sport like few others, and his work has been incredible up to this point," Lewis Hamilton added.
