Lewis Hamilton's calendar: why the future of F1 is (also) tied to him

Formula 1 returns to Las Vegas, but it might not be the only "contribution" from Lewis Hamilton to the calendar. The British driver has always expressed his desire to race on the Strip, a wish granted by the FIA and Liberty Media. The 2024 edition promises to fix the mistakes of the previous season, but in the meantime, the seven-time world champion is already focused on his next goal.

Lights and shadows from the night in Las Vegas: the 2023 edition will be remembered for Charles Leclerc's brilliant race, the on-track spectacle, but also for the manhole cover scandal and the moments that followed. Between excessive glamour and the pure emotion of Formula 1, there are many aspects to correct for next week's race.

The setting, however, remains unparalleled: a Grand Prix that may make purists frown, but with undeniable (and grand) visual impact. Lewis Hamilton is satisfied with it and can't wait to dive back into the streets of Sin City, but he already has the next project in mind: a race on the calendar to be held in Africa.

Lewis Hamilton and the F1 calendar: Mission Africa

That Formula 1 is interested in Africa is no longer a secret. Rwanda, Zanzibar, South Africa: there are many potential destinations, and the English driver hopes a decision will be made soon.

"One of the fun things is that maybe I played a small role in these races that have come – Lewis Hamilton said during the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend at the Interlagos circuit, as reported by SoyMotor.com – They asked us where we wanted a race, and I always said Las Vegas. Now, suddenly, a few years later, we have a race in Las Vegas. What happened with the fans [in 2023] wasn't great, but the race was incredible." – the future Ferrari driver explained.

"I've also talked about Africa, and potentially we have the Rwanda option, which is incredible, so I hope it comes before I retire. It's my biggest dream, and I want to make sure I race in Africa before I retire." – Lewis Hamilton concluded.
