Motorsports at the Olympics? Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc weighs in

As the Paris Olympics captivate the world this month, discussions about the inclusion of new sports continue to surface. Future Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton has announced his plans to attend the games to support a friend, while Charles Leclerc took part in the prestigious torch relay leading up to the event. The Monegasque driver has also expressed his desire for motorsports to become a future Olympic sport.

Charles Leclerc’s Olympic Dream for Monaco

“It would be great to have motorsport at the Olympics,” the Ferrari driver said, despite the fact that he is aware there would be some more complications as compared to other sports – “However, I think it’s a bit more difficult to organise than other sports because obviously we are all driving for different constructors with different cars in Formula 1. And to be able to have all the same car, you will have to choose, obviously, which route you want to go to, what downforce, what horsepower and everything.” – he pointed out.

Charles Leclerc then added: “But it’s definitely possible.” The Ferrari driver also explained why it would mean so much to him to represent his country not only in F1, but also at the Olympics. “I would love to represent Monaco. I’m very proud of being from Monaco. We are very few Monegasques. And it feels good to be representing such a small but beautiful country. So I would love to. But I don’t know if there are any plans of that any time soon.” – the Ferrari man concluded.

Monaco has yet to secure its first Olympic medal. This year, seven athletes from the Principality are competing in Paris. The Ferrari driver has voiced his eagerness to represent Monaco in motorsports if it ever becomes part of the Olympic Games, hoping to bring home a medal for his country.
