The Mexican GP qualifying met expectations and even delivered a few surprises. A battle was expected between Ferrari and McLaren, with Verstappen potentially joining the pole fight. That's exactly what happened.

Carlos Sainz achieved a stunning pole position with a lap of 1:15.946, over two-tenths faster than Max Verstappen, who will start second. Norris is more than three-tenths behind, and Leclerc will start from P4, beaten by just 0.005 seconds by Lando. The surprises of the weekend so far, in a negative sense, have been Oscar Piastri and Sergio Perez, eliminated right away in Q1. They will start from the 17th and 18th positions, respectively. On a positive note, Mercedes is on the third row, and Haas managed to get both cars into Q3.

The Provisional Grid for the Mexican GP (race start at 21:00 CET)
No penalties to report, so we can now provide the provisional starting grid for the Mexican GP. The formation lap is scheduled for Sunday, October 27, at 21:00 Central European Time.

Why do we call it a provisional grid? Because team technicians could still encounter issues with the cars before tomorrow's race, and if it is deemed necessary to replace a component subject to regulatory restrictions, the Federation would have to drop the driver of that car a few positions on the grid.

P.S.: You'll always find the updated standings on our website at the end of each session.
