Former GT driver and current commentator for Sky Sport F1 Italy, Matteo Bobbi, during the program Paddock Live, spoke about the upgrades that McLaren introduced last weekend in the Miami Grand Prix, which were fully installed on Lando Norris’s car, while only fifty percent on Oscar Piastri’s one. Here are some of his most important comments at the end of the Miami Grand Prix.

Bobbi’s analysis on McLaren

Matteo Bobbi began his analysis by saying, “The package brought was extensive, comprehensive, and included very critical and pivotal areas. First of all, they modified the inlet, that is, the entry of the sidepods. Now it develops with a more horizontal, wider, and lower section. They have therefore decreased the vertical section, and the tray has also been elongated. The suspensions have been revised, along with the brake ducts, in addition to the front wing, especially in the spoon section, as well as in the last element.” – he pointed out.

“The sidepod itself, if viewed laterally, has been reduced in height, with a more pronounced flare. All this was done with the intention of managing the flows in a different way. The hood is more tapered, the outlets dedicated to heat dissipation have been positioned at that point, the floor has a different kerb also in the Venturi channels. In short, as I was saying, it was a very extensive package, however, Vasseur is right, when teams bring upgrades to the track they quantify them in 2 or 3 tenths when it comes to a big package, never in five or six tenths.” – he added.

Speaking then of the Prancing Horse, which is expected to introduce its the big aerodynamic package in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the Italian stated, “Ferrari obviously has taken a different path from last year and will be much more aggressive. They will have a sidepod that will also be visually very different, and more similar to that of Red Bull. It will be a very extensive package for the Scuderia as well, but normally, as I always say, it will take a couple of races to really see the maximum of an upgrade.” – he concluded.
