In recent days, Ferrari announced its organizational structure for the upcoming seasons, revealing that the technical director will be former Mercedes engineer Loic Serra. What will the future of the Scuderia look like under his leadership? Let’s try to understand together.

Certainties: the drivers and Fred Vasseur

Among the certainties for Ferrari in the coming years, we must start with the drivers: Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.

On one side, “Il Predestinato” born in Monaco and raised in Maranello, and on the other, a seven-time Formul 1 world champion who needs no introduction.

Ferrari will be able to count on a mature driver ready to win, like Charles Leclerc, and on an experienced profile like Lewis Hamilton, who still has a great hunger for success and will be a real asset to the entire Maranello team.

Another cornerstone of the project is the person managing the drivers, Frédéric Vasseur. Since taking on the role of team principal, the Frenchman has succeeded in improving the team in various aspects: a prime example is strategy.

Weaknesses: handling pressure and the past

Ferrari's two main weaknesses ironically stem from its great strength: its history. The team’s past success forces it to always be competitive and, above all, to win.

With a title drought lasting since the 2008 Formula 1 season, the longer time passes, the harder it will be—for those involved—to manage the pressure, especially after the missed opportunities in recent years.

It is no secret, in fact, that despite the 2017, ’18, and ’22 championships being at least within reach, Ferrari failed to triumph on any of those occasions.

In short, Frederic Vasseur will need to manage a team determined to bring Ferrari back to where it deserves to be, giving them the awareness that along the way, there will be more than a few obstacles to overcome.

Unknowns: the car and a possible internal conflict

The main unknown is the performance of the 2025 Formula 1 car, which is primarily in the hands of the new technical director, Loic Serra.

The engineer has a lot of experience in the field, although he has never held the role he has now been assigned at Maranello.

If the work of the technicians turns out to be exceptional, leading to a car capable of fighting for the Formula 1 championship against Red Bull, there is a possibility that an internal struggle could arise between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

Even in this hypothetical scenario, it will be up to team principal Frederic Vasseur to monitor the situation and ensure that Enzo Ferrari‘s will is respected: the Scuderia first, then the drivers.
