The 2025 F1 Calendar
The 76th edition of the Formula 1 World Championship starts on March 16 with the Australian GP in Melbourne. This marks the beginning of a packed F1 calendar that, with 24 events, mirrors the record-breaking 2024 season. As in 2024, the total number of races reaches 30 if we include the Sprint Races, the mini-GP format races held on Saturday mornings. These shorter races will be six in total, covering 25% of the calendar events. Here is when and where the six "special" weekends of the calendar are scheduled.
When will the sprint races take place in the 2025 F1 World Championship?
The championship kicks off on March 16 in Australia with a traditional weekend format. However, the first F1 Sprint Race is not far off, scheduled during the Chinese GP weekend on March 23. The second sprint takes place on Saturday, May 3, on the streets of Miami, while the third event is somewhat of a surprise, set for the legendary Spa-Francorchamps track (instead of the Red Bull Ring, as it was last season) during the Belgian GP on July 27, 2025.
As in 2024, the last three Sprint Races are concentrated between October and November, during the critical phase of the championship. The sprint weekend resumes on Saturday, October 18, with the U.S. GP in Austin, followed by Interlagos during the Brazilian GP weekend on November 8, marking the fifth and penultimate F1 Sprint of the season. The final Sprint Race will be held in Qatar at Lusail on Saturday, November 29, just one week before the grand finale traditionally scheduled for the Abu Dhabi GP on December 7, 2025.
How will the F1 Sprint Race format change in 2025?
There will be no significant changes to the format. Following the adjustments made between 2023 and 2024, the F1 Sprint weekend program seems to have found its footing – appreciated by most of the audience – featuring qualifying on Friday afternoon after a single practice session, and a 100-km sprint race on Saturday morning. The winner will again earn 8 points, with 7 for second place, 6 for third, and so on, down to a single point for the eighth-place finisher. Saturday afternoon will feature qualifying for the traditional GP, now entirely separate from the Sprint event, allowing for setup changes.
