Since the announcement of the Belgian GP’s renewal, many have been wondering who will take Spa’s place in the rotation debuting in F1. From the possibility of Imola to the return of Turkey, rumors abound, along with potential candidates.
In a Formula 1 era increasingly considered its golden age, Stefano Domenicali faces a growing number of requests. South Africa, Rwanda, and Portugal are just some of the countries that have expressed interest in joining the 24-race season.
Who will replace Spa-Francorchamps?
The answer comes directly from the organizers of the Belgian event. Melchior Wathelet, president of the historic Spa circuit, spoke about the agreement with F1. "The contract we signed guarantees at least four races," he stated in an interview with Sporza. "This doesn't rule out the possibility of having more races or that the famous rotation might not involve Belgium."
"The topic of alternation was certainly discussed during the renewal phase, and there's a chance that Barcelona could take our place," Melchior Wathelet added.
It could, therefore, be the Catalan round that alternates with the Belgian GP, which remains one of the most anticipated and appreciated weekends by fans worldwide.
