Why O2 launch event is already a flop and F1 teams have snubbed it

Despite F1’s idea to celebrate its 75th anniversary with a unique presentation event at the famous The O2 in London, the teams continue to do their own thing. But what is behind the failure of F1’s choice of a unique event to showcase the cars for the season that will begin in March at the Albert Park circuit in Australia?
Let’s start from the beginning. In December, F1 announced a joint launch of the cars in an event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the premier motorsport category. F1, along with the FIA, presented the event as a great opportunity to celebrate this historic moment.
Does it really make sense to unveil the F1 cars at the O2?
However, from the outset, the announcement raised many doubts and was not well received by fans and professionals alike. Particularly from a media standpoint, the decision was largely condemned. But why?
F1 enthusiasts will be familiar with the value of the car launch at the beginning of the season. The moment the car is revealed is part of a decades-old tradition, and each team sees it as a real baptism to kick off the Formula 1 season.
A joint launch inevitably takes away all the magic of this moment. The presentation "waltz" keeps fans glued to their screens for two weeks, eager to discover the details of the new car. Revealing all 10 contenders of the World Championship at once is certainly an intriguing idea, but perhaps only F1 truly grasped its appeal.
In fact, the teams have practically snubbed the event. Yes, there will be 10 covered cars at the O2 in London on February 18, but they will just be “plain” liveries, nothing more. Some teams have already set their own presentation dates as if there wasn’t already an event for the occasion.
This raises the question of whether F1’s idea was truly a sensible choice. Time will tell.
