Wrong setup for Ferrari in Miami Sprint? Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have different opinions

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have divergent opinions on the Ferrari setup: does the SF-24 in Miami really lack straight-line speed? For the Monegasque, the main issue was another.

Carlos Sainz struggles behind a determined Ricciardo, while Charles Leclerc has some regrets in the battle with Max Verstappen: did Ferrari really get the setup wrong in Miami?

“You saw it perfectly. We didn’t have speed on the straights, not even with the DRS,” reacted Carlos Sainz immediately after the Sprint Race in Florida. The Spaniard finished in fifth place behind a tenacious Daniel Ricciardo. Carlos was very close to the Racing Bulls throughout the session but never managed to make the decisive move for an overtake.

“The Honda acceleration allows them to make a good step,” admitted the Madrid native. “On this dirty track, you can’t even make special braking moves off the racing line.” However, what happened was anticipated: “We knew it could happen with the choice we made. Now we have to focus on the race, but the battle with Daniel was frustrating. However, he did a good job.” – he pointed out.

His teammate Charles Leclerc did not share the same opinion. In second position throughout the Sprint, the Monegasque closely followed Max Verstappen, and his feedback can only be positive.

For Charles Leclerc, the problem was not the lack of straight-line speed but another: “In my opinion, we lost the race when we lost the DRS right after the Safety Car. With the DRS, we could have put pressure on.” – he explained.

The SF-24, which the Monegasque driver was not able to test in the first free practice session, provided good sensations: “We were very fast from turn 4 to turn 7. That allowed me to stay close and try to overtake in turn 9 or 10. But I never had the DRS. Besides that, we were quite fast, especially considering the first free practice session. We need to improve some things before qualifying. Analyzing the Sprint, we are more or less there, and we can put pressure on Max. However, I heard that he is not very happy with the car; we’ll have to see how much they improve.” – he concluded.
