'I expected more from myself' - Remy Gardner reflects on the opening round of the 2025 World Superbike season

Remy Gardner's 2025 World Superbike season did not start the way the Australian planned.
The 2025 World Superbike season kicked off in perfect fashion for Ducati, but it was a difficult weekend for the other five manufacturers.
Yamaha struggled across the weekend at Phillip Island, especially GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team rider, and home hero, Remy Gardner.
The Australian failed to score a point in the opening round of the season and only finished a race. Gardner finished 10th in the Superpole Race on Sunday morning, a place away from a point.
"Personally, I expected more, including from myself," the GYTR GRT Yamaha rider admitted to
GPOne.
"I trained like an animal in the winter and am in better shape than ever, but unfortunately we didn't get the results we wanted. We have a lot of work ahead of us.
"In 2024 we could fight for podium places, this year we fought for a place in the top 10."
The best performing Yamaha World Superbike rider was Pata Maxus Yamaha rider, Andrea Locatelli. The Italian scored 22 points after finishing in seventh, sixth and seventh across the three races.
"He shows our level, he got the most out of the bike," said Gardner.
"The Yamaha may not be the perfect bike for my riding style, but I think I've adapted well. We're still not ready, but if an opportunity arises, I'll take it.
"At the moment, however, we're a long way away. The R1 certainly suits Locatelli's riding style better, especially at Phillip Island."
