A week after undergoing surgery on his left foot, Jonathan Rea has provided a new update on his recovery.

Jonathan Rea missed the start of the 2025 World Superbike Championship due to injuries that he sustained during the Phillip Island Test.

Since suffering the multiple fractures to his left foot, the six-time Champion has undergone successful surgery.

On the 2nd of March, the Northern Irishman provided his latest update following on from his surgery.

"I think there was a little bit more damage in there than originally expected," Rea said on his YouTube channel.

"They have fixed the first, second and third metatarsals together with plates and screws... I am properly sore. It was a success I am happy I had the op, because there was more damage than we expected."

It has been confirmed that Rea will miss the second round of the World Superbike season. However, he is still targeting a 'fast and safe' return to racing as he is full of 'optimism' for the remainder of the season.

Seven days after his surgery, Rea said: "It has been a week since I have been operated on and it has been a journey. There have been highs and lows, I wanted to bring you all on this journey with me so I could be as transparent as possible.

"My leg is still in a fixed cast, but I have been trying to get out of the house. Still going through wound care this week and trying not to get any infections and avoiding setbacks.

"I have got a hyperbaric chamber that arrived the other day and I have clocked about six hours in that. I am doing anything I can to get back on the bike as fast and as safe as possible.

"Going into this season we were working under the radar, but there is a real reason for optimism. Last year I feel like as a team we tried to manufacture optimism. But this year working with Uri, there has been a completely different dynamic in the team

"Everybody was pretty excited to start the year, it feels like a kick in the nuts really to start the year like this. But it gives us some hope that when I come back I will be able to feel good on the Yamaha."
