Massimo Rivola and Aprilia have no desire to return to World Superbikes under its current regulations.
Aprilia has not competed in World Superbikes full-time since the 2018 season with the Milwaukee Aprilia Team. However, the Aprilia Racing Team have not had an official entry into the series since the 2015 season.
Since the 2016 season, Aprilia Racing has been focussing its efforts on the MotoGP World Championship. The Italian manufacturer is still yet to win a MotoGP title but has their previous three titles from the World Superbike Championship in 2010, 2012 and 2014.
Despite their previous success in World Superbikes Aprilia Racing has no desire to return to the series. Aprilia Racing CEO, Massimo Rivola, discussed World Superbikes' future and Aprilia's future in the series to GPOne.
"The only future I can imagine for the series is related to the Superstock regulations," Rivola stated.
"They should then simply remove the turn signals and rear-view mirrors and race that way, keeping the designation. This is the message that any manufacturer wants to send, as it allows them to sell."
Rivola went on to claim that Aprilia has no desire to return to World Superbikes as it is a 'B Championship' compared to MotoGP.
"It would be necessary to establish a ceiling on costs because it is ridiculous to allow 45,000 motorcycles to compete against 25,000 ones.
"Currently, we are not interested in racing in SBK as it looks like a B championship of MotoGP. As soon as a proper regulation is adopted, we will be very happy to participate."
Aprilia has upped its efforts in MotoGP for the 2025 season and has improved its factory rider lineup. The 2024 MotoGP World Champion, Jorge Martin, will ride for Aprilia and will have Marco Bezzecchi alongside him in the factory team.
The Trackhouse Racing Team will continue to work with Aprilia in 2025 and will have Raul Fernandez and Ai Ogura on their factory specification Aprilia RS-GP's this season.
