Jack Doohan has vowed to "achieve great things" with Alpine after the team decided to retain him for the rest of the season. RacingNews365 reported earlier this week that the Enstone squad had decided to keep faith with the Australian for the remainder of the season after reports of a clause in his contract which could have seen him replaced after a handful of races emerged in pre-season. Doohan's position was further placed into doubt by the team signing Williams reserve Franco Colapinto, although boss Oliver Oakes has given his full support to Doohan at multiple points through the season. Speaking in Jeddah ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Doohan felt he had shown good pace and just needed to build a weekend together ahead of his sixth F1 race. "I've tried not to think about it," Doohan told media including RacingNews365. "We know internally what my contract situation is, and the rest, I always knew was going to be fluctuating for sure. "All I can focus on is what me and the team are here to do and for me to get up to speed as quickly as possible. "It has been good that we've shown some good moments over the past four rounds and the raw pace is there. "There are a lot of strong things to take forward and now it is just about putting all those things together and for sure, we will be able to achieve great things." Article continues below. Doohan to alter qualifying approach Doohan enjoyed his best performance of the season in Bahrain, only missing Q3 by 0.017s before finishing 14th in the race. He felt that "not trying to reinvent the wheel" at key moments in qualifying would be beneficial. "Not trying to experiment too much at the end of Q2, which is the most important for tyre warm-up and just sticking to what has worked and sticking to the basics," he replied when asked what would get him higher up on the grid. "It got me through around P5/P6 for the whole qualifying session, and then not trying to reinvent the wheel for the remainder which maybe put me out of Q3 which I shouldn't have been."
