WHAT IS IT? Mini-Dad Dan Daniels started T-Rex Moto-X out of a necessity. His three kids were hard on their bikes, and eventually, Dan started making his own parts to fix their problems. Best known for their billet throttle tubes for mini bikes and even select big-bike models, the T-Rex brand has expanded to triple clamps. We tested the T-Rex top triple clamp on a KTM 65SX, and they also fit on the KTM/Husky/GasGas 50cc models as well. T-Rex also makes upper triple clamps for the Austrian 85cc machines, as seen on Aidan Zingg’s Loretta Lynn-winning Supermini, which we tested in the January issue of MXA.

WHAT’S IT COST? $279.00 (standard finish), $299.00 (vapor finish)

WHAT STANDS OUT? Here’s a list of things that stand out with T-Rex’s top triple clamp for the KTM 65SX mini bike.

(1) Concept. The MXA mini wrecking crew has been hard at work, and the triple clamps/bar mounts have been one area that’s seen a lot of abuse on our 65s. The billet material of the T-Rex top triple clamps is significantly stronger and thicker than the stock forged-aluminum clamps, eliminating the issue of bar-mount bolts pulling out of the triple clamps during high-speed impacts. The T-Rex triple clamp’s split design also increases stability and eliminates fork twisting for KTM, Husqvarna, and GasGas 50cc and 65cc mini bikes. With these clamps, the forks can be extended lower, increasing performance and reducing head-shake, all the while staying AMA-legal in the stock classes. The clamp bolts are made of titanium, keeping them light as well.

(2) Performance. Our mini test riders noticed a more predictable and stable feel with the T-Rex upper clamp compared to stock. This came with a sense of comfortability and the ability to carry more speed, especially over braking bumps and corner entrance. The stronger top clamp, paired with the more flexible stock bottom clamp, allowed the front end to flex, giving our riders the best of both worlds.

(3) Aesthetics. In an era where kids have that “look good, feel good, do good” mentality, the T-Rex triple clamp definitely checks all the boxes. The clamps come in a variety of colors, including orange, red, blue, factory finish, grey, black, Vapor Blue, Vapor Gold, Oil Slick Vapor, Vapor Black and Vapor Graphite.

WHAT’S THE SQUAWK? Installation and/or adjusting the forks can be a little difficult when using the T-Rex upper clamp, because they are very tight and difficult to spread. We suggest using some Maxima MPPL when sliding the forks into the clamps.

MXA RATING: When you come across a product that not only improves performance but also increases durability, it’s a no-brainer. Our mini test riders were more comfortable with these clamps, and the front end was stronger because of it. It’s a win-win!
