mp matter what anybody says when they are ask for their predictions on who is going to win—the honest answer leading into the season opener at Anahaeim Stadium was Jett Lawrenc ein the 450 class and Haiden Deegan in the 240 West. Surprise! That didn’t happen! Neither Haiden nor Jett could get out of their own way. Jett didn’t even make the top ten, while Haiden squeaked out a top five finish. So, who was impressive? Chase Sexton was the creme of the 450 crop on Saturday night with Ken Roczen in the hunt all the way. Even Jorge Prado looked like a potential top five until he faltered back to 14th, but the 14th wasn’t indicative of the speed and talent he displayed. He has 16 more Supercross events to hone his skills.
In the 250 class Jo Shimoda put last year’s topsy-turvy year in the rear view mirror. He rode a fast, mistake free and consistent pace all the way to the checkers with Julien Beaumer a solid second. Jordon Smith took his Triumph to the third step on the podium.
