Watch as retaliation went wrong for Ty Gibbs at Bowman Gray Stadium
On Sunday night, NASCAR dropped the green flag at Bowman Gray Stadium. We expected full contact on the 1/4-mile bullring and that’s what we got.
That was specifically true for the last chance qualifier event. In the LCQ, only the top two finishers would advance into the main event. For everyone else, they would miss the show.
Justin Haley tagged the left rear of Ty Gibbs entering the corner. Gibbs was sent spinning and the caution came out.
Under the yellow, Gibbs turned into the side of Haley on his way out of the pit gate. However, instead of bouncing off his door, they touched wheels.
Gibbs was launched into the air in spectacular fashion. When he came back down, he hit frame to pavement then turned to the pit area.
“That was pretty violent,” Clint Bowyer stated via the broadcast booth.

“I wonder how his back is today,” Ryan Blaney stated via the Door Bumper Clear podcast.
“Ty Gibbs, launching over the 7. Obviously, he didn’t mean to jump wheels. I think he meant to just door him and pull off.”
“I know what it feels like to just bottom out one of these cars. There’s these blocks under the frame that are just solid.”
“I know I would be bed ridden. I wouldn’t be here today.” He concluded, “I would be in the hospital.”
