An early end to Dakar 2025 for Danilo Petrucci after he rolled his truck at the start of Stage Five.
During Stage Five of Dakar 2025, Danilo Petrucci crashed his truck and was forced to retire from the event.
After competing in Dakar 2023 on a KTM in the motorbike class the Italian decided to switch things up for 2025. Petrucci entered the event with Marco Arnoletti and Italtrans owner Claudio Bellina.
Only 3km into Stage Five of Dakar 2025 Petrucci hit a rock, rolled his truck and damaged the fuel pump, forcing his team to retire from the competition.
"The post I never wanted to write," Petrucci said on his Instagram.
"After not even 3km, I still don't know how, after a hole, I hit a bush of camel grass with the right rear and the truck [rolled].
"Fortunately we are all okay. Now we have to do 300km, in 10 degrees, to get back to the bivouac hoping that the roll cage is not damaged.
"Total bitterness. I apologize to Italtrans, to the navigator Marco Arnoletti and Claudio Bellina, patron of Italtrans who gave me this great opportunity. I am really, really sorry."
If the team's roll cage is not damaged after today's crash then they can continue in the event. However, they will be put into the unclassified 'experience' class from Stage Six and onwards.
