Dominique Aegerter's second year in World Superbikes was a troubled season when compared to his rookie campaign.
The 2024 World Superbike season was Dominique Aegerter's second year in the class. However, after an impressive rookie season in 2023, his second season was interrupted by illness and injuries.
Last season the Swiss rider finished eighth overall with 163 points and two podiums to his name. But in 2024 Aegerter finished 16th with 91 points after missing nine races during the year.
Like the rest of the 2024 Yamaha World Superbike lineup, Aegerter struggled and was plagued with issues. In the summer Aegerter was sidelined after a training crash caused him to miss three rounds of the season.
"For me, 2024 was a difficult season," Aegerter said. "We were starting with a virus infection, so I missed all the tests, middle of the season we were a little bit unlucky with some technical failures.
"In August, I injured myself in a motorbike accident, I injured my shoulder and ribs; I still need to recover my shoulder a little bit, but I could race the last two races.
"I didn't achieve my goals that I was hoping for, but I'm looking forward to next year and being fully ready for next season."
'I will try to race in the top six... and try to fight for podiums.'
For 2025 Aegerter will stay with the GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK squad for a third season. The 34-year-old wants to return to the rostrum after a year of no visits to the podium.
"I will give my best for sure," he continued. "I try to race in the top six, this would be a great target, try to fight for podiums.
"But we will see also how we will make the winter tests, and I hope we can make a step with Yamaha as well because the other manufacturers are getting faster and faster.
"So, we try hard, I'm trusting in the team and Yamaha to work 'full gas' in the winter. I try to fully recover, and make me physically and mentally fully fit for January where I have my first test in Jerez."
