Scott Redding discusses declining a potential return to the British Superbike Championship for the 2025 season.
After a difficult 2023 and 2024 World Superbike season Scott Redding will remain in the Championship in 2025. The British rider will return to Ducati machinery after three years with German manufacturer BMW.
Before debuting in World Superbikes with the factory Aruba.it Racing - Ducati squad in 2020 Redding raced in the British Superbike Championship (BSB). In his rookie season in BSB, the former MotoGP rider won the title with Paul Bird Motorsport.
Recently Redding revealed that he could have returned to Britain for the 2025 season. However, instead of returning to the British Superbike paddock, he decided to remain in the World Championship but stated that he would not 'get paid' for the 2025 season.
"I asked myself whether I should go back to the BSB," Redding told the Paddock Pass podcast.
"But many people around me and close to me said that I wasn't ready to go back, that I had left that era behind for the moment. If I went back, there would be no way back to the World Championship. They assured me that they were convinced that I could still win races.
"I agree, the fire is burning inside me! I also believe that with the right material, I can fight for the top four in the championship. For that I have to be on a Ducati, that's my machine, otherwise, I wouldn't have done it.
"I knew that if I had this bike, I would be motivated. At the same time, it's hard because I don't get paid to race. I said I wasn't going to do that anymore, I have a family to support.
"So I could have gone to BSB, earned money there, fought for the title and been happy. But I've never shied away from a challenge. That's why I'm one of a handful of Brits who made it to MotoGP and got on the podium there.
"So I had to put myself in a situation where I could get through the year. Ultimately, I want to turn things around so that I can get paid again in the future - that's my job."
