After a strong start to the 2025 season, Yamaha is targeting title success with the new R9.
The Yamaha R9 made its debut in the World Supersport Championship last month at the opening round of the 2025 season.
Expectations for the Japanese manufacturer's new machine were high, but Yamaha was able to exceed its own expectations for the first round of the year.
"The engineers in Japan and Europe did an excellent job," said sports director Niccolo Canepa.
"We knew that the R9 would be competitive, but to win the first race is fantastic. There is still room for improvement with the bike, we can continue to improve it. We will work on that, because the potential of the R9 is significantly higher."
After winning the opening race of the season with Stefano Manzi and finishing runner-up in Race Two, Yamaha's expectations for 2025 have grown.
The Japanese manufacturer is now hopeful that they can engage in a title fight with Ducati and Triumph.
"Our goal is very ambitious, we want to win the world championship and achieve as many race victories as possible," Canepa emphasised.
"In 2025, we have the strongest line-up of riders we have ever had in the Supersport World Championship: [Stefano] Manzi, [Can] Öncü, [Michael Ruben] Rinaldi and [Lucas] Mahias. With these riders, it is clear that we want to win."
