Sam Lowes wants to 'fight for the top positions' in 2025

Sam Lowes and Marc VDS are hoping to be fighting at the front in 2025.
In 2024 Sam Lowes made the switch from the Grand Prix World Championship to the World Superbike Championship.
There were great expectations set for Lowes' rookie World Superbike season, but the British rider did not manage to match the expectations. Lowes' debut season was plagued with injury issues that hampered his 2024 season.
Lowes ended his rookie year in 18th place in the standings with 53 points to his name and a best finish of sixth place. The 34-year-old will remain with Marc VDS for a second season in 2025 and is hoping for an injury-free season.
"When you're riding injured, and things aren't going good it's a hard moment," said Lowes. "Every rider has the winter, but I feel like it's been a long time since I've been feeling good on the bike, so I definitely needed the winter to get healthy.
"I'm looking forward to getting going and I'm feeling in a better place than last year. I expect from this season to fight as close to the front as I can, obviously top independent. It seems like a big job considering last year, the end was difficult, but we had some good rides, so just to keep improving, improve my run and start adapting to the superbike and fight for the top positions."
Lowes knows that for his second year in the class he needs to be at full fitness. The Ducati Panigale V4 R is a physical bike that is difficult to ride when dealing with injury woes, something that he struggled with in the second half of the 2024 season.
"The biggest thing last year was fitness; in the second half of the season I was struggling. My riding style, braking, the way you have to get the maximum from Superbikes especially Ducati, which everyone knows is obviously the best bike, is just to stop the bike better and use the bike's strong points on the exit."
