"Two roosters in one henhouse? I prefer it this way" – Fred Vasseur comments on Hamilton-Leclerc pairing
06/04/2024 08:39 AM
Charles Leclerc- Lewis Hamilton, no problem for Frédéric Vasseur: in Formula 1, it's better to have two lead drivers. The team principal of the Prancing Horse defends the choice made at the beginning of this season. Traditionally, in the series, the norm is to designate a first and second driver to avoid potential internal issues. Starting from 2025, Ferrari will go in the opposite direction.
2025 is approaching, as is Lewis Hamilton's first day at Ferrari. The English driver is increasingly distancing himself from Mercedes, perhaps already thinking about Maranello. Another difficult season for the Brackley team certainly doesn't help the morale of the Englishman, who hopes for one last resurgence in red. In Italy, however, he will have to contend with Charles Leclerc.
The Monegasque is enjoying a golden moment after his victory on the streets of Monte Carlo in Monaco, dispelling both near and distant ghosts. Not too far behind Max Verstappen in the overall standings ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, he is keeping an unexpectedly open championship alive after the first third of the 2024 Formula 1 season. It is reasonable to expect that the Monegasque, now in his sixth season with Ferrari, will finally want to realize his dream of winning the championship.
The prospect of internal tension between the two future teammates, however, does not worry Frédéric Vasseur: “We will have a double benefit in the team; we will score more points with two drivers than with one and a half drivers. It is a positive move from a performance perspective. Part of our results today are due to a similar dynamic created between Charles and Carlos.” – the French manager pointed out – “As soon as one of the two takes a step back, the other is there to score points and wake up his teammate,” explains Frédéric Vasseur. “I am really convinced that I prefer two strong drivers. I am sure that the potential points for the team are much higher this way.” – the Ferrari team boss concluded.
