The fault could cause a loss of power-assisted steering in the people mover, according to the recall notice.

Kia Australia has recalled 6155 examples of its 2024 Kia KA4 internal combustion engine (ICE) and KA4 PE HEV Carnival, citing a potential fault with the car’s assisted steering function.

The affected vehicles are stamped 2024 models but may have been sold at a later date.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says:

"Due to a manufacturing defect, the main wiring harness may come in contact with the steering column shaft and become damaged. This may result in the loss of power assisted steering.

"A loss of power steering assist whilst driving increases the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users."
