- 2024 Renault Kangoo E-Tech pricing and specifications
- Short and long-wheelbase body styles
- 285km driving range but no standard fast charging
- Priced from $61,990 plus on-road costs
The 2024 Renault Kangoo city van is due to launch in Australia more than three years after it arrived in European showrooms – priced $13,600 higher than its 15-year-old predecessor.
The first shipments will comprise the electric version, the Kangoo E-Tech Electric, ahead of regular models with petrol and/or diesel engines – the model line-up yet to be confirmed – at a later date.
It is priced from $61,990 plus on-road costs with a short-wheelbase body, or $63,990 plus on-roads in long-wheelbase trim – $13,600 more than the outgoing Kangoo ZE, sold in long-wheelbase Maxi form only.
While it is a price rise of more than 25 per cent, the new Renault Kangoo is larger, far more advanced and better equipped than its predecessor, with more power and a longer driving range.
The short-wheelbase Kangoo’s load area measures 1806mm long, 1248mm wide between the wheel arches, and 1215mm high at its tallest point – while the long-wheelbase version is 2230mm long, 1248mm wide and 1248mm high.
Payloads are 523kg for the SWB, or 668kg for the LWB – meanwhile the load capacities are 3.3 and 4.2 cubic metres respectively.
The previous long-wheelbase model’s load area is 1862mm long, 1218mm wide and 1252mm high, with a 650kg payload.
Powering the new Kangoo E-Tech is a 90kW/245Nm front electric motor and a 45kWh battery, good for 285km of claimed WLTP driving range.
On a 22kW AC charger it can recharge – from unspecified start and end battery charge levels – in two hours and 25 minutes, while on a 80kW DC charger this time falls to one hour and 25 minutes.
However the 80kW DC charging technology is a $1600 option. The Kangoo is believed to be the only electric vehicle on sale in Australia without standard DC fast charging.
For comparison, the previous Kangoo ZE was powered by a 44kW electric motor and 33kWh battery, good for less than 200km of claimed driving range, and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 22.3 seconds.
Standard equipment includes 16-inch steel wheels with hubcaps, halogen headlights, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, cloth seats, climate-control air conditioning, and rear parking sensors.
Options include LED headlights, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, satellite navigation, keyless entry, tyre pressure monitoring and a wireless smartphone charging pad.
