Audi’s revamped range of executive sedans slims down to a single non-S variant, with the wagon now only available as an S5.

  • No A5 wagon for Australia
  • S5 available in wagon or Sportback body styles
  • Priced from $79,900 before on-road costs

The new 2025 Audi A5 will replace both the existing A4 and A5 when it arrives in Australian showrooms this year, as Audi’s first model to make its debut on the brand’s new (and possibly last) petrol-powered vehicle platform.

It will be a pared-back line-up for the mid-sized passenger car, available in a Sportback body style with a liftback tailgate, with just two model grades to choose from.

As previously detailed, Audi has discontinued the A4 model line in favour of this new-generation A5. The new A5 is longer, wider, and marginally taller than its predecessor.

The 2025 Audi A5 range begins at $79,900 before on-road costs for the entry-level A5, which outputs 150kW from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This version is only available in the Sportback body style – a wagon option is no longer offered for the regular A5 range in Australia.

Convertible and coupe variants of the A5 have been dropped globally in the move to this new generation.

Performance buyers will be drawn to the S5, available in Sportback and Avant body styles. In addition to a more powerful engine, this car gets a 20-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with speakers integrated within the front head rests, quad exhaust pipes, unique badging, and silver accents.

Outputs are bumped to 270kW and 550Nm in either the S5 Sportback or Avant variants, courtesy of a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol V6.

Common to both the A5 and S5 is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. However, only the S5 is a beneficiary to Audi’s new 48-volt mild-hybrid ‘plus’ system that’s capable of driving the wheels on electric power alone at low speeds for very short distances.

Pricing is not yet available for the S variants, with this detail to be provided closer to the car’s launch later in the year.

Audi will introduce unique ‘edition one’ specials of both the S5 Sportback and S5 Avant. These variants are highlighted by black trims and bespoke details inside and out, though it’s understood that no performance benefits will be introduced.

Technology boasts mirror those of the new Audi Q6 e-tron electric SUV. This means 11.9-inch digital instrument display and super-sized 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, integrated into a curved panel dubbed the ‘Digital Stage’.

More details on the 2025 Audi A5 range will become available closer to the model’s launch.
