Honda has lowered the price of its small SUV as part of a model update that adds new styling and features.

  • Small SUV gains cheaper hybrid variant
  • Updated safety technology, revised styling
  • Priced from $34,900 drive-away

Prices of the 2025 Honda HR-V small SUV are unchanged or cheaper than before, despite the arrival of an updated model with additional features across the range, and changes to the exterior, interior and driving experience.

The updated HR-V introduces a new, more affordable hybrid variant, plus a restyled front grille, revised interior design, and safety improvements.

Honda has retained the entry-level petrol variant’s $34,900 drive-away price – unchanged since the outgoing model received a $1800 price cut in April as part of a run-out offer.

The flagship hybrid starts from $42,900 drive-away, $1000 less than its previous price – months after a $3100 price reduction in April.

The new e:HEV X hybrid – with a similar equipment level to the base Vi X petrol, but with the hybrid technology from the e:HEV L – is priced from $39,900 drive-away.

As with all new Honda cars sold in Australia since July 2021, the prices above are non-negotiable – and apply nationwide.

The drive-away prices are said to exclude “state/territory incentives for hybrid vehicles where applicable” which, as a guide, lower prices in Queensland and the ACT by about $500.

A full list of standard specifications is yet to be distributed by Honda Australia, but it has confirmed certain new features for different model grades.

There’s a reshaped grille up front – with a darkened upper trim piece, and on hybrids, new adaptive high-beam tech – plus revised LED tail-light signatures, and new Slate Grey and hybrid-only Botanical Green colours.

Inside, the lower dashboard has been restyled with a larger tray for storing a smartphone, plus the addition of a USB-C port.

Honda says the steering has been retuned for greater “high-speed stability and [a] more predictable steering feel,” plus increased soundproofing material, and on hybrid variants, revised suspension dampers.

Hybrid variants also gain revised Power Control Unit software claimed to deliver “more seamless transitions between EV and hybrid modes, in addition to improving EV throttle response.”

The Japanese car maker says the “hybrid mode charge strategy” has been “improved to reduce sudden rises in petrol engine RPM in hybrid mode”.

New safety technology includes Low Speed Braking Control, believed to be Honda Australia’s name for technology designed to prevent a crash if the driver presses the accelerator instead of the brake pedal in a car park.

There’s also a traffic-jam assist system for the adaptive cruise control system, and on the hybrid variants, adaptive high beam functionality that blanks out part of the headlight beam to prevent dazzling oncoming motorists.

The autonomous emergency braking technology gains motorcycle detection and pedestrian/cyclist front cross-traffic awareness, while the adaptive cruise control has been revised for “improved responsiveness” at low speeds.

The Vi X is powered by a 1.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder engine producing 89kW and 145Nm, matched with a continuously-variable automatic transmission (CVT) driving the front wheels.

The e:HEV hybrid variants combine a version of the 1.5-litre engine with two electric motors for 96kW and 253Nm combined, matched with an ‘electronic’ CVT.

The 2025 Honda HR-V is due in Australian showrooms next month.
