More power, torque, and payload are on offer for the facelifted Ram 1500, which swaps V8 power for a new 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six-cylinder.

  • 2025 Ram 1500 pricing and specifications
  • New six-cylinder engines offer more power and torque than V8
  • Interior modernised with larger infotainment screen
  • Priced from $141,950 before on-road costs

The facelifted 2025 Ram 1500 – with a twin-turbo inline six-cylinder replacing the V8, alongside styling changes and new technology – will be priced from $141,950 before on-road costs, the same RRP as last year's equivalent car.

The price of entry into the new Ram 1500 line-up is $22,000 higher than before – as the previous entry-level Big Horn (was $119,950) and Laramie grades are not currently available in the six-cylinder range – but these may be added at a later date.

Ram Trucks Australia says some V8-powered Model Year 2024 examples of the Big Horn, Laramie, and Limited variants remain, while stocks last.

Opening the Model Year 2025 range is the 1500 Laramie Sport, powered by a 3.0-litre Hurricane twin-turbo inline six-cylinder petrol engine which replaces the outgoing 5.7-litre Hemi V8, but boasts more power and torque.

Developing 313kW/635Nm, the 2025 Ram 1500 Laramie Sport punches out 22kW/79Nm more than the old V8.

However, the engine tune in the Laramie Sport is known as the 'Standard Output', with buyers stepping up to the top-spec Ram 1500 Limited (from $159,950, a $3000 increase) scoring the 'High Output' six-cylinder engine.

This ups the ante to 403kW/707Nm – or 112kW and 151Nm more than the Hemi V8.

Both engines send drive to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the smaller engine is expected to yield improvements to fuel economy and emissions, though no figures have been published by Ram Trucks Australia.

For reference, the outgoing V8-powered Ram 1500 Laramie Sport and Limited returned a 12.2 litres per 100km lab-tested fuel consumption figure, and emitted a claimed 283 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre.

Despite the change in engine, the six-cylinder pick-up retains its 4500kg maximum braked towing capacity – at least in Laramie Sport form.

The Ram 1500 Limited drops 300kg in its maximum braked towing capacity rating to 4200kg.

As for payload, the 2025 Ram 1500 Laramie Sport features an 863kg capacity, while the Limited comes in at 782.5kg – 20kg and 17.5kg more than before.

Five driving modes are also paired with the new powertrain – Auto, Sport, Tow, Snow, and Off-Road – while the facelifted model is also distinguished by new head- and tail-lights, front bumper, and wheels (20 inches for the Laramie Sport, 22 inches for the Limited).

The new Ram 1500 also scores a powered tailgate as standard, which can be opened or closed from the key fob.

Inside, the 2025 Ram 1500 is also updated with a larger 14.4-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, supplemented by a 10.25-inch passenger screen and dual wireless smartphone chargers.

The full list of 2025 Ram 1500 Laramie Sport standard equipment can be found below, but buyers opting for the Limited also score a larger 125-litre fuel tank (up from 98L), traffic sign recognition, proximity lighting, and massaging seats – all new in the update.

Despite dropping two cylinders, the ‘Hurricane’-powered Ram 1500 is still expected to resonate with buyers, according to Ram Trucks Australia General Manager Jeff Barber.

"We know a lot of people love the sound of the Hemi V8, but we think the Hurricane engines will become iconic in their own right," Barber said in a media statement.

"With more power and more torque than the 5.7-litre Hemi V8, the Hurricane engines take the Ram 1500 – and, frankly, US pick-ups – to a new level of performance.

"Once people experience the power of the Hurricane engine series, they will see what the fuss is all about."

This leaves the Chevrolet Silverado as the last US-imported pick-up with a V8 engine, a 313kW/624Nm 6.2-litre powerplant found under its bonnet.

The Ford F-150 makes use of a 298kW/678Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6, while the Toyota Tundra has a 326kW/790Nm 3.5-litre twin-turbo hybrid V6.
