The latest turn in the electric-car price war is a $6000 discount for the Chery Omoda E5 small SUV, available for a limited time.

The Chery Omoda E5 SUV has received a $6000 discount for a limited time that makes it one of Australia’s most affordable electric vehicles.

After BYD yesterday announced a cheaper Atto 3 variant for $39,990, the RRP of the Chery Omoda E5 BX has been cut to $36,990 plus on-road costs, while the better-equipped EX grade is now $39,990 plus on-road costs.

With on-road costs included, the entry-level Omoda E5 slides below the $40,000 drive-away mark in the ACT, Queensland, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

The offer is effective immediately, and runs until 31 January 2025, according to the Chery website.

It makes the Omoda E5 one of the most affordable EVs, behind only the likes of the MG 4 Excite 51, GWM Ora and BYD Dolphin hatchbacks – as well as the MG ZS EV electric SUV, which is currently listed for $36,990 drive-away.

All Omoda E5 variants are powered by a 150kW electric motor and 61kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack good for a claimed 430km driving range based on European WLTP testing.
