The Mercedes-Maybach SL680, an ultra-high-end version of the AMG SL63 convertible, is coming to Australia – but not until mid-2026.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram Series – an even more luxurious and expensive version of the brand’s iconic SL convertible – has been confirmed for Australia, due in showrooms in the middle of 2026.

The soft-top, two-seat roadster is the first SL to wear Mercedes-Benz’s ultra-luxury Maybach badge, and was unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours event in California in August 2024.

“We will bring this car to Australia in the course of 2026,” Johannes Schön, Sales Director Mercedes-Benz Australia Pacific, told media at the local unveiling of the SL680’s stablemate, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS680 SUV.

Asked about precise arrival timing, Schön told Drive: “I don't want to give a certain number right now, it looks like mid-2026 but as always with new car launches for special cars, [there’s] a lot of time until then, but it looks like mid-2026.”

The exclusive model is likely to be offered in very limited numbers, with exact volumes to be confirmed once the brand has conferred with its local customer base.

“This is obviously a very unique vehicle for the Australian market, so we will see,” Schön said.

“We will obviously talk to our customer base and then we will derive in the end what will be the total number. More importantly – we are present with such special [product] in the Australian market.”

Both variants of the SL680 Monogram Series – the Red Ambience and the White Ambience – utilise the same 430kW/800Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine found in the Mercedes-AMG SL63.

However, the SL680 deletes the SL63’s rear seats in favour of an aerodynamic ‘double scoop’, and also adds a Maybach steering wheel, stainless-steel door trims and pedals, and an upright Mercedes star on the bonnet, along with a host of other luxury appointments.

Pricing for the Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram Series in Australia is yet to be announced, but prospective buyers can expect it to comfortably sit well above the SL63’s $380,000 plus on-road costs price tag.
