Nissan could collaborate with Foxconn, the contract electronics manufacturer known for building the Apple iPhone, after merger talks with Honda collapsed.
A Taiwanese technology company known for its Apple iPhone manufacturing contract reportedly wants to collaborate with Nissan after the carmaker’s merger talks with Honda collapsed.
Foxconn – a contract electronics manufacturer which recently unveiled a number of electric car and bus concepts – said it aims to collaborate with Nissan, but not acquire it, Reuters reports.
“Purchasing [Nissan’s] shares is not our aim; our aim is cooperation,” Foxconn chairman Young Liu told media at its corporate headquarters in New Taipei, near Taiwan’s capital.

Nissan is reportedly open to new partnerships – such as Foxconn – after merger talks with Honda hit a brick wall a month after a memorandum of understanding was signed due to growing differences between the two Japanese carmakers.
Nissan and Honda are due to confirm their financial results for the third quarter of the Japanese financial year later today, with an official announcement on the merger talks between the two companies likely.
Foxconn is also considering cooperation with Renault, which has the largest stake in Nissan at 36 per cent, including 18.7 per cent in a French trust.
Liu told media Foxconn does not intend to become an auto “brand” – despite unveiling ‘Foxtron’ electric vehicle concepts – and would instead provide design and manufacturing services to other carmakers.

The electronics company reportedly approached Nissan in December 2024 for a partnership deal, before merger talks between Honda and Nissan were officially announced.
As reported last week, the merger talks between the carmakers collapsed after Honda suggested Nissan become a subsidiary, rather than forming a joint holding company.
Nissan chief executive officer Makoto Uchida reportedly travelled from Yokohama to Tokyo on Thursday February 6, 2025 to meet with Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe to discuss Nissan’s intention to end the merger talks.
