Chinese car maker has extended its offer to double its standard five-year warranty to ten years as wait times blow out for its G6 SUV.
XPeng has extended its offer of a 10-year warranty – including free servicing – for all customers who order a model before June 30, 2025 as wait times for Australian customers for its Tesla Model Y rivalling G6 electric SUV stretch to four months.
The car maker included the extended warranty above its standard five-year warranty when it launched the five-door family sized G6 SUV – still the sole XPeng in Australian showrooms – in the second half of 2024, with the offer originally expiring January 31, 2025.
It includes a full 10-year/unlimited kilometre factory warranty on the entire vehicle as well as the battery pack – adding to its standard eight-year warranty – with recent Australian research revealing longer than expected battery life for used electric vehicles.
Additionally, the XPeng offer also waives the $238 fee for the first annual service, with the extended warranty worth $4980 according to XPeng.
It sees the Chinese car maker join Mitsubishi, MG, and Nissan in offering 10-year warranties, although Mitsubishi's is limited to 200,000km and MG's to 250,000km.
The G6 SUV – which earned top marks in safety ratings used by ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) – is offered in Standard and Long Range versions, starting at $54,800 before on-road costs.
The Standard Range uses a LFP (Lithium-Iron Phosphate) battery with a single 190kW/440Nm electric motor powering the rear wheel wheels, for a claimed 435km (WLTP) on a single battery charge.
The Long Range – which is $59,800 before on-road costs – uses the same powertrain but with 210kW/440Nm and NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery to increase claimed range to 570km.
In extending the 10-year warranty offer – which will be backdated to all customers who ordered from February 1, 2025 – XPeng appears to be looking to keep interest in the popular G6 despite confirming wait times of 12-16 weeks.
XPeng launched the G6 in late 2024 with only four Australian dealers, but with an ambitious expansion plan to increase as it delivers more models to its local line-up.
The G9 electric SUV – a larger Toyota Kluger-sized five-seater already on sale in right-hand drive in the United Kingdom (UK) – is expected to be the next new model to arrive here.
In Europe, the G9 is offered rear- and all-wheel models with a flagship 'Performance AWD' version using a 405kW motor, 98kWh NMC battery for claimed 520km (WLTP) range.
The seven-seat XPeng X9 electric people mover is also on the way, with three-rows of seating including leather-trimmed 'captain's chairs', as well as a large 101.5kWh battery with a 702km (CLTC) range.
The P7 sports car is also under evaluation for Australian XPeng showrooms, but the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2 alternative is yet to be officially confirmed for local showrooms.
