Intense market
The 2024 Formula 1 driver market has been one of the most intriguing ever, with the already announced transfer of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari, Mercedes’ search for a replacement for the seven-time world champion, and the constant rumors surrounding the current reigning champion, Max Verstappen. But it’s not only in the cockpit that top teams are negotiating with superstars. The other big saga of this season involves Adrian Newey. The brilliant British designer, who boasts an endless collection of titles won with his cars, is openly desired by at least three teams: Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Williams.

The Prancing Horse seems to have an advantage over the competition in securing Newey’s services, as he is set to leave Red Bull and has been mostly ‘confined’ to working on the fascinating RB17 project, the first hypercar ever created by the Milton Keynes group. Whether the 65-year-old British engineer already has a definite plan for his future is still unclear.

Between family and work
In an interview with British TV channel Sky Sports F1, the outgoing technical director of Red Bull indicated a deadline by which he should define his professional future, which—according to his recent statements—should continue to develop in Formula 1: “Decision in autumn/winter? Yes, the goal is definitely that,” confirmed Newey, “by then I will have to make a decision.”

In the meantime, the most successful designer in the history of the sport is enjoying time with his family: “At the moment I’m continuing to work on the RB17 and then taking some time off,” – the British engineer added – “For example, last week we took seven days off, trying to make the most of the weather, and we toured the southern coast with our dogs in an old Aston Martin DV6. It was a lot of fun.” – Adrian Newey concluded.
