Brembo preview: here are the braking points to watch out for in Austin | 2024 F1 USA GP

Formula 1 returns from a long autumn break and heads to America for the nineteenth round of the season: here's the Brembo preview to analyze the most critical braking points on the Austin track.

After almost a month since the last Grand Prix, Formula 1 is back in action at the 5.513-kilometre Circuit of The Americas in Austin. With the help of Brembo technicians, we analyze the main loads on the brakes of the single-seaters on the Texan track.

The Austin circuit is 5,513 meters long and is moderately demanding on the braking systems of Formula 1 cars. There are four braking points that can be considered difficult, but an equal number do not put much strain on the brakes.

In a single lap, the brakes are engaged ten times, for a total of about 16.7 seconds, which, over the course of the race, corresponds to 18% of the total time. In terms of the distance traveled with the brakes engaged, it's about 730 meters per lap.

The most challenging corner for the brakes is Turn 12. Cars approach this braking zone at over 309 km/h and must reduce their speed to 86 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, covering a distance of 123 meters.

At this point, drivers experience a deceleration of 4.3 g and must apply a pressure of 133 kg on the brake pedal. In this moment, the brakes need to dissipate energy by slowing the vehicle with a braking power of 2,212 kW.
