F1 Commission approves cooling kit for F1 drivers
Yesterday at 02:50 PM
The fifth meeting of the Formula 1 Commission this year took place in Geneva, chaired by FIA Single-Seater Director Nikolas Tombazis and Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali. Numerous issues were discussed during the meeting, which concluded with the approval and introduction of several technical and regulatory changes for the upcoming championships.
Cooling kit from 2025
One of the most interesting changes will come into effect as early as 2025, with a technical modification introducing a cooling kit for drivers. This will be used if a heat hazard is declared for drivers inside their cars during the hottest weekends of the year, such as those in the Middle East, where temperatures reach their highest. This decision aims to prevent incidents like those in last year's Qatar GP, where several drivers experienced health issues during the race.
Other updates
Additionally, after controversies following the recent São Paulo GP, the F1 Commission “confirmed a revised protocol for closing the starting grid when a team withdraws a car.” Finally, the possibility of organizing a Sprint race reserved for rookies was postponed. However, the proposal will be revisited in 2025, with the goal of an event in 2026.
