Loic Serra has completed his gardening leave
The wait has not been short or painless, but the era of Ferrari’s new technical director, Loic Serra, has finally begun. The Maranello team had actually started negotiations to lure the Frenchman away from Mercedes in the summer of 2023, but the move only materialized a few months ago, partly due to the long gardening leave imposed by Toto Wolff’s team. The leave period ended on October 1, with Serra starting his role at the Maranello factory.

Scuderia Ferrari officially announced the start of Loic Serra’s work, publishing the first photo of the 52-year-old in the red uniform on its official website. The engineer, who is experienced in suspension, tire performance, and vehicle dynamics in general (a crucial area under the current regulations where the Italian side has traditionally been lacking), is taking on his first career role as technical director. Initially brought in to serve as Head of Engineering and Performance, Serra takes over the technical direction from team principal Frederic Vasseur, who had been serving in an interim capacity after Enrico Cardile‘s decision to move to Aston Martin.

Ferrari, Jerome D'Ambrosio is also on board

Alongside Loic Serra, former driver Jerome D'Ambrosio also begins his work in Maranello. After an apprenticeship as team principal of Venturi Racing in Formula E and serving as the deputy team boss for Mercedes alongside Toto Wolff, the 38-year-old will take on the same role at Ferrari, reporting directly to Frederic Vasseur. Jerome D'Ambrosio, a Belgian of Italian descent, will also take charge of the Ferrari Driver Academy talent program, which has nurtured Charles Leclerc and, most recently, future Haas F1 driver Oliver Bearman.
