Ferrari faces first mathematical defeat after 2024 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix

The Brazilian Grand Prix brought a stinging disappointment for Scuderia Ferrari, marking the first major mathematical defeat in the championship. With his fifth place in Interlagos, Charles Leclerc is officially eliminated from the drivers’ championship fight, which had recently sparked back to life.
Max Verstappen’s victory in Brazil delivers a decisive verdict. Now, the drivers’ championship battle is solely between the Dutchman and Lando Norris. However, the gap between the two now stands at 62 points, with Verstappen pulling even further ahead of his McLaren rival.
A Bitter Disappointment for Ferrari
Currently, Max Verstappen leads Charles Leclerc by 86 points. With only 86 points remaining in the season, factoring in the three races and the Sprint in Qatar, Charles Leclerc has no chance to catch up. Even if they tied, the Red Bull driver would win due to his eight victories versus Charles Leclerc’s three.
The Brazilian race was certainly not favorable for Ferrari, although Charles Leclerc did limit the damage against McLaren. On a track where McLaren was expected to dominate, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri gained only 12 points in the race, while Ferrari managed 10.
In the end, Ferrari lost only 2 points to McLaren in the Constructors' Championship, so the fight remains intense. There are still 36 points between the two teams, even factoring in McLaren's one-two finish in Saturday's Sprint at Interlagos.
Red Bull has also re-entered the Constructors’ battle with Verstappen’s win. The Milton Keynes team is now only 13 points behind Ferrari, keeping the three-way battle for Constructors’ glory alive. While the drivers’ title seems firmly in Max Verstappen’s grasp, the Constructors' fight remains extremely tight.
