On the program Race Anatomy, presented by Sky Sport F1, Luigi Mazzola identified only Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc as “drivers up to the task.”
Luigi Mazzola’s comments
Here is the engineer’s comment: “There are two drivers who are up to the task. One is Max Verstappen, who is complete in every aspect, and the other is Charles Leclerc, who still lacks a little something to reach Max Verstappen’s level. The rest is mediocrity.”
“Norris is mediocre, as is Piastri. They are drivers who perform at certain levels—clearly, to be in Formula 1, they are fast, and there’s nothing to criticize. However, if we compare them to the benchmark of the grid [set by Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, ed.], they fall a bit short,” Luigi Mazzola added.
This statement particularly surprised Matteo Bobbi, who was incredulous that the former Ferrari engineer did not include Lewis Hamilton, with the seven-time Formula One world champion joining the Maranello team starting with 2025.
